Aquitaine
Aquitaine is a rich mosaic of different lands, each with its own pronounced character of landscapes, architecture and gastronomy, yet they share an important common theme: an authentic 'art de vivre'.
Troubadour Travel explores three of these regions.
- The Basque Country, on the Spanish border, where the Pyrenean mountains meet the Atlantic Ocean, is a country of proud and passionate people, with a fascinating culture of dance, song and storytelling
- The Dordogne region in the heart of Perigord is Europe’s cradle of prehistory. Battlefield of the English and the Franks, home of the Hundred Year War, a land seeded with feudal history, bastides, chateaux and historic monuments.
- St Emilion where the Romans left their influence and were the instigators of what became the largest wine producing region in the world.
In Aquitaine, a festive spirit is an integral part of the personality of its inhabitants, who will welcome you. Aquitaine was also the birthplace of the Troubadours, wandering poets and singers of love:
So through the eyes love attains the heart:
For the eyes are the scouts of the Heart
Troubadour Guiraut De Borneilh (ca. 1138-1200?)
